Editing Made Colorful!

Do you have problems with students editing their own writing?  They want to rush through one of the most important parts of the writing process so they can get to their favorite part, publishing.  Sound familiar?  I have found that color editing works well with my students.  It guides them in what to look for and is great for those visual learners.

This is the poster that is displayed in my classroom.

Students follow these steps to self-edit their own writing.  They quickly discover that if they have a red, then they MUST have a green.

After they mark all that needs to be marked, they go back to make sure their punctuation and capitals are correct.

Editing isn't so dull now, it's actually quite colorful :)!

You can download my Color Editing Poster for free at my TpT store.

Decimals Aren't So Scary!!

In my fourth grade class right now we are in the middle of a decimal unit.  In honor of the upcoming Halloween frenzy, I created these decimal activities that students can complete with partners or on their own.  This would be great for math centers or stations!

You can download this for free at my TPT store.

Coins, Doubloons, and Money Too!

Beginning this week, my fourth graders will begin a Math unit on money.  While searching for activities, I was finding them few and far between.  So, I decided to make my one activity pack and make it available for others.  All of the activities within the pack can be used for centers, individually, or cooperatively with partners or whole class.

Sentence or Fragment?

We have been distinguishing between complete sentences and fragments this week. Students have been writing and also identifying them in context. I created a sentence sort for students to identify them in isolation. Click the picture below.

Common Core Posters

Have you looked at the Common Core Standards and felt a little overwhelmed? I know I have. I have created KID friendly Common Core Math posters for third, fourth, and fifth grade. I plan on copying my grade level posters onto cardstock, laminate them, and post them for students to refer to when starting a new concept.

You can find these posters in my TpT store.

Look for Language Arts Common Core posters to be available soon!
