I recently had to make a Facebook switch. It’s been a little confusing to my followers and a little nerve-racking for me, but I’m determined to make this work! My old Facebook page had a misspelling, yes a misspelling. Unfortunately, once a Facebook page has been named there is no changing it. Favorite read aloud? Oh my! That is such a difficult question! For the holidays, my all time favorite is How the Grinch Stole Christmas. For all other times of the year? I love humorous books as read alouds... maybe Scaredy Squirrel would be my favorite. But books to me are like cookies... you can't pick just one. :-)
I like reading "The Giving Tree." It is appropriate for all ages and really gets the students thinking.
I love anything by Robert Munsch! We read Cookies - make clay cookies to fool other staff and make real one!
I like reading "Frindle" with my students. They really get into the story!

My favorite so far has been Charlie and the Chocolate Factory because we then watched the original movie and did a Venn Diagram comparing / contrasting the book and the movie. I also love picture books and this time of the year Polar Express.
Favorite read aloud: How to Be Cool in Third Grade I love starting out the year with this read aloud.
I like reading Lunch Money.

On the First day of school - First Day Jitters
The True Story of the Three Little Pigs. It is great for teaching Point of View.
I love to read Seekers: The Quest Begins by Erin Hunter because of the great descriptive language. She describes objects from the point of view of the bears and the listeners have to infer what is being described. Great novel.
One of my favorites is Amazing Grace. It teaches a great lesson. I use it at the beginning of every school year. Also- Recess Queen!
Favorite read aloud? That's tough because I have many! I love Kate DiCamillo, especially "The Tale of Despereaux". It's a good story and I love the opportunities to talk about WORDS with this book.
Enemy Pie. I read it part way, then have students ask a question and make a prediction. We share these, then finish the book. A great book for all ages.
One of my favorite read alouds is Skippy Jon Jones! I love the book and so do my students!
My favorite read aloud is Charlotte's Web.
Through my years of teaching (and when I was in school) students have loved listening to A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L'Engle!

So many books... so little time. The Giving Tree is a favorite for the Thanksgiving holiday and leading into the December holiday events. Since I'm intrigued by word origins, I also like Frindle to spark discussions of words and perspectives.
My favorite read aloud is any of Jan Brett's books. I love her pictures!!
I love reading "velcome" at Halloween in my best Transylvanian accent.
The Napping House for younger students; The Lion,The Witch, and The Wardrobe for older students.
My students really like for me to read The Teacher from the Blake Lagoon-- my name is Mrs. Green.

For the beginning of the school year, I love to read "There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom" by Louis Sachar to my 5th graders.
I love reading The Man Who Loved Clowns by June Rae Wood. So many opportunities to discuss disabilities and acceptance of everyone. It is set in Missouri, which is where I am, so lots of text-to connections made. The characters are so richly developed that my kiddos fall in love with them immediately. A great read aloud for fifth grade!
My favorite read aloud is Sideways Stories from Wayside School. I can teach so many rules and procedures during the first week of school with this book. My kids love it every year!!
Just one?? That's hard...but I love reading The Kissing Hand, then build upon that theme with Penn's other books in the series throughout the year.

I also have many favourites, but now have a new one: I read "The Polar Express" to my Grade 6 students, because there are still a few of them who believe & quite a few who don't... It's nice to see ALL of their faces light up and the wonderful descriptions. Then of course, we watch the movie, and my gift to them this year was a mug with hot chocolate mix, marshmallows, and a candy cane stir stick, with a Snowman Soup poem that I wrote myself. It's their last year before transitioning to jr/sr high, over 1/3 of our town was devastated by wildfires in May (left over 2000 homeless) and I wanted to make it extra special for them!
I always liked reading the Laura Ingalls Wilder Books.
Frindle is my read aloud. The students love to try and come up with their own new words.
