Anchor Charts
I am crazy about anchor charts! About five years ago I was introduced to the idea, and I have been hooked every since. Starting at the beginning of the year the charts that we make together end up hanging from the ceiling. By the end of the year they are all over the place.
So, do they really use them? My answer is YES! It is truly a trail of their learning, and they are referred to consistantly. At the end of the year in preparation for state testing, they come down. My students always hate to see them go and think that our room looks quite empty. I have seen my students look for a chart to find that they are no longer there, then chuckle because they forgot.
Here are a few anchor charts that you will find in my room.

Can I stump you??
Last week I wanted my students to practice identifying and writing complete sentences. Modeling first, I wrote two complete sentences and one fragment.
Example:
- Today I went to the movies.
- I saw.
- I bought popcorn at the movies.
The class was to determine which sentence was a fragment, find the fiction. Individually the students chose their answers on a sticky note, and then together the team came together with a consensus. They found the fiction, the one that was not a complete sentence. After students understood what I was looking for, what they were to accomplish, they set off to make their own.

Student Learning Contract-Reading
Learning Contracts are extension activities for students. They communicate to students that learning never stops, and they provide ongoing activities. A great friend and mentor of mine created a student learning contract for reading. I have adapted it to meet the needs of my classroom. This is something that I hope to do more of throughout the year!

Common Core Posters
Have you looked at the Common Core Standards and felt a little overwhelmed? I know I have. I have created KID friendly Common Core Math posters for third, fourth, and fifth grade. I plan on copying my grade level posters onto cardstock, laminate them, and post them for students to refer to when starting a new concept.
You can find these posters in my TpT store.
Look for Language Arts Common Core posters to be available soon!
